Here is the logo for NZARES, the sister organisation to AARES. The designer's explanation follows: "The "A" draws on the associated Australian Society's logo, as well as standing for agriculture. The "R" incorporated in the logo stands for the resource management aspects of the society, and ends in an uncurling fern frond, which is a symbol of New Zealand. The fern frond also represented an historical resource for Maori, and suggests the natural resources of the land. The sweep of the fern shape and the underlying curve suggest the New Zealand landscape, and the curl of the fern suggests the sea with its many resources. Block lettering was used for the NZARES lettering, to illustrate the strong quantitative and robust analytical underpinnings of the Society." Others have also noted that the diagonal lines of the A look like the roofline of a Maori whare (house), and there is the shape of a whale caught under the curve of the fern, but these were unintentional!
