Awards for distinguished and honorary Members
Distinguished Life Members
Distinguished Life Member award of AARES is designed to recognise either:
(a) members who have made an outstanding service contribution, which greatly enhances the operation and/or development of AARES, or
(b) individuals, including non-AARES members, who have made a sustained and distinguished contribution to the wider community through policy, administration, extension, business, or public service in Australasia in a field relevant to AARES.
Successful nominees will receive:
(a) members who have made an outstanding service contribution, which greatly enhances the operation and/or development of AARES, or
(b) individuals, including non-AARES members, who have made a sustained and distinguished contribution to the wider community through policy, administration, extension, business, or public service in Australasia in a field relevant to AARES.

Life membership to AARES

Notice of award will be published in the Australian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics (AJARE)

Complimentary conference registration, 1 night's accommodation and 2 tickets to the Awards Dinner for the year the award is conferred.
Criteria for this honour
1. The person must be alive at the time of the nomination, and
2. Either option a) or b) below:
a) An outstanding service contribution, which greatly enhances the operation and/or development of AARES. The person must have been a member of AARES for at least 10 years, not necessarily continuously or currently.
b) A sustained and distinguished contribution to the community through policy, administration, extension, business, or public service in Australasia. The contribution(s) must be in a field relevant to AARES, including agricultural economics, environmental economics, food economics, resource economics or agribusiness.
The frequency of Distinguished Life Member awards is not fixed but is expected to be around one every two to three years.
Distinguished Fellows
This award recognises the achievements of long-serving members of AARES who have made a sustained and distinguished contribution to at least one of the following: research, teaching, research-based policy development, and/or leadership of outstanding research or teaching programs in a field relevant to AARES.
Successful nominees will receive:
- Notice of award will be published in the Australian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics (AJARE)
- Complimentary conference registration, 1 night's accommodation and 2 tickets to the Awards Dinner for the year the award was conferred.
Criteria for this honour
Note: all four criteria must be met.

The person must be alive at the time of the nomination.

A sustained and distinguished contribution to at least one of the following: research, teaching, research-based policy development, and/or leadership of outstanding research or teaching programs. The contribution(s) must be in a field relevant to AARES, including agricultural economics, environmental economics, food economics, resource economics or agribusiness.

A significant contribution to the operation and/or development of AARES.

The person must have been a member of AARES for at least 10 years, not necessarily continuously or currently.
The number of Distinguished Fellow awards is not fixed, but is expected to be around one to two per year.
