The Local Organising Committee for the 2018 Australasian Agricultural and Resource Economics Society (AARES) now invites Selected Paper, Contributed Paper and Poster contributions highlighting the latest economic research and policy innovations in the areas of agriculture, environment, food, resource and agribusiness. The 2018 Annual AARES Conference will offer a forum for applied and theoretical economists to gather along with industry and policymakers to share experiences and draw insights. We will learn ways to create opportunities to achieve rising and shared prosperity while better managing the natural environment in our region and beyond.
As always, the aim of the AARES Conference is to foster discussion and the interchange of ideas, solutions, new methods and techniques, theories and trends across our disciplinary domains including agricultural economics, natural resource economics, environmental economics, ecological economics, energy economics, natural resource management, multi-disciplinary studies and policy issues related to these areas of intellectual inquiry. A list of paper/poster themes for the conference program are included below.
All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference.
The Conference theme is Abundance in an Era of Scarcity? Challenges and Opportunities for Australasian Agriculture, Environment, Food, Resources and Agribusiness.
The following paper categories are welcome:
Selected Papers can now be submitted via the ‘Submit here’ option above. These are completed papers (containing an abstract, introduction, methods, results and discussion section) that go through a peer-review process to ensure the content of the research is relevant to the Conference and is of a high standard. PLEASE NOTE - a copy of the full manuscript must be submitted electronically by the due date of 18 September 2017. Potential outcomes following the peer-review process include: (1) Accepted for presentation at the Conference; (2) Not suitable for presentation as a Selected Paper but, suitable for submission to the Contributed Paper or Poster streams; (3) Not suitable for the AARES conference.
All Selected Papers must include at least one of the themes listed below on this page, to assist with the review process. Please make sure to include the relevant theme(s) with the key words as part of the submission process. Based on your theme selection, papers will be allocated to thematic sessions following the sub-themes of the conference and, where appropriate, to other specific themes.
A Selected Paper Template can be downloaded here. Titles and abstracts of successful submissions will be included in the Conference Handbook.
Contributed Papers are invited on any topic relevant to the conference theme via the ‘Submit here' option above. Contributed Papers are not peer reviewed. The author need only submit the title and a 250-word abstract and the Papers Committee will make a decision based on this limited information. Titles and 250-word abstracts must be submitted by the closing date of 23 October 2017. All presenters are encouraged to produce a technical paper to support their presentation, but this is not essential. As each delegate is only entitled to make one verbal presentation, please consider submitting posters for your additional research projects. Note that there are no restrictions on co-authorship for contributed papers. A Contributed Paper Template can be downloaded here.

Opportunity for researchers involved in ACIAR-funded projects
As part of ACIAR's sponsorship of the conference, ACIAR will support researchers working on ACIAR-funded projects to attend the conference by covering their registration fee. To be eligible for funding to cover registration fees, researchers must submit an abstract (based on research conducted as part of an ACIAR-funded project) to the Contributed Paper stream of the conference. To be eligible, researchers must also be based in an ACIAR partner country in the Indo-Pacific region, i.e. not Australia. The deadline to submit an abstract to the Contributed Paper stream to be considered for this opportunity is 31 October 2017.
Successful candidates will be selected based on the quality of their submission.
For more information please talk to your project leader.
Please follow the 'Submit here' link below to upload an abstract. We ask that you include "ACIAR submission" in the keywords associated with your abstract, this will ensure that you will be considered for funding support to cover your registration at the conference.
