Childcare at AARES Conference 2019

The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre offers a childcare room for people at the conference. More information will be available soon.

Key dates

The last day to upload a full manuscript for a selected paper is 17 September 2018.
The last day for contributed paper and poster submissions is 22 October 2018.

Online registrations are open from November 2018.
Authors to be advised of the success of their paper submission in the first week of December 2018.
All presenting authors must be registered for the conference by 10 January 2019 or their paper will be removed from the program. Closing date for early bird registration is 31 December 2018.

Terms and Conditions

Registrants will be able to elect to pay the Early Bird fee up until close of business on 31 December 2018. All registrations made after that date will be charged the standard registration fee. Conference registrations will not be confirmed until the online form and the correct payment is received and processed.

Registrants should obtain confirmation of their registration before committing to travel arrangements. Please check the settings on your spam filter as AARES cannot be held responsible for your failure to receive your confirmation email.

Please note

  • Capacity of the conference venue is limited and registrations will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Conference registrations cannot be shared.
  • Registration fees are calculated for full days; individual conference sessions cannot be purchased separately (except in the case of package deals).
  • Registered delegates will receive a name badge, and additional registration materials when they confirm their attendance at the venue in Melbourne. They will then have access to all of the conference sessions, including the Welcome Reception on Tuesday night. Tickets for social functions are not included in the registration fee, but can be purchased separately using the registration form.

    Complimentary Registration

    Due to the complexities of the payment system, we request that anybody who is offered a complimentary registration for all, or part, of the conference, pay the costs upfront, then submit THIS REIMBURSEMENT FORM to the AARES central office, ensuring that they fill in all the details for reimbursement. We reserve the right to confirm eligibility before making payment.

    Guest Registration

    Attendees are encouraged to bring spouses, friends, and family to the Conference. All such attendees must register as guests in order to participate in meeting activities. Guests include any interested party not professionally in the field of agricultural or resource economics, or a related discipline. Registered guests will receive a name badge.

    On-site Ticket Purchases

    A limited number of tickets for social events may be available at the conference registration desk in Adelaide. As these tickets will only be available on the condition that places at the event are available, we strongly suggest that you purchase your tickets in advance when you register for the conference. We cannot guarantee the availability of any social event tickets on-site.


    The preferred method of payment is online through this website using MasterCard or Visa Card. All cheques must be in Australian dollars, made payable to AARES, and mailed to:

    Refund Cancellation Policy

    Cancellation of a registration must be notified in writing to the AARES Conference Office  prior to 15 January 2019 to be entitled to a full refund. Registrations cancelled after 15 January 2019 and before 1 February 2019 will be entitled to a 80% refund. Registrations cancelled on or after 1 February 2019 will not be refunded. Substitutions may be made at any time.

    All refunds will be made within a two month period after the Conference.

    Requirement for an Australian Visa

    All visitors to Australia must have a valid visa to travel to and enter Australia (other than New Zealand passport holders who will normally be granted a Special Category visa on arrival, provided they meet health and character requirements). 

    Passport holders not eligible for an online visa will need to lodge a paper-based visa application at least six weeks before the intended departure. 

    For more information, see the attached link on Visitor Visas for Australia which has been published by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection. You'll need to select "Attending a Conference or Expo", then answer the questions from there.

    The AARES Central Office is able to issue Letters of Invitation to overseas delegates who have paid for their registration in full in order to assist in their application for a visa. A Letter of Invitation cannot be issued until the registration fees have been paid. 

    Liability / Insurance Statement

    In the event of industrial disruptions or natural disasters, the Australasian Agricultural and Resource Economics Society Ltd (AARES), the Local Organising Committee, or any professional conference organiser engaged by the Society, cannot accept responsibility for any financial or other losses incurred by the delegates. AARES, the Local Organising Committee, or any professional conference organiser engaged by the Society, takes no responsibility for injury or damage to persons or property occurring during the Conference. All insurance, including medical cover, or expenses incurred in the event of the cancellation of the Conference, is the individual delegate’s responsibility. Attendees are encouraged to choose a travel insurance policy that includes loss of fees/deposits through cancellation of your participation in the Conference, or through the cancellation of the Conference itself, loss of airfares for any reason, medical expenses, loss or damage to personal property, additional expenses and repatriation. should travel arrangements have to be altered. The conference organisers will take no responsibility for any participant failing to insure against these potential losses.
