AARES Awards

Each year, AARES presents a substantial number of awards aimed at recognising and rewarding the efforts of members of our community to promote the profession of agricultural and resource economics in Australia and other countries and to foster, in all sections of the economy, interest in and understanding of the economic issues affecting primary industries, resources and the environment.

AJARE Award

To recognise the most exceptional article published in AJARE in the preceding calendar year which makes a significant contribution to the field of knowledge in agricultural and resource economics.

  • $500 book voucher for a Wiley-Blackwell publication

  • First Time Presenter's Award

    To recognise the most outstanding presentation by a 'novice' at the AARES Annual Conference.

  • $100

  • Donna Brennan Prize

    To provide an overseas student with the opportunity for professional and personal development and cultural exchange through their attendance at the AARES annual conference where they will present a Selected Paper.

  • Closing date for submissions:  18 September 2017
  • $1,500

  • Henry Schapper Fellowship

    To provide a leading researcher in a field relevant to economic and ecological sustainability to share their knowledge with AARES WA Branch members through seminars, workshops or other activities with members over the period of a week or two.

  • Closing date for submissions:  15 September
  • $2,000 (to contribute towards airfares and accommodation)

  • Post Graduate Thesis Award

    To recognise the best post graduate thesis in the field of agricultural and resource economics
    (this award replaces the Masters and PhD Awards).

  • Closing date for submissions:  20 December

  • Best Poster Awards

    1. To recognise the most outstanding Poster at the AARES Annual Conference.

  • Masters Research Award

    No longer awarded

    To recognise the best masters thesis in the field of agricultural and resource economics.

    To recognise the best PhD thesis in the field of agricultural and resource economics.

  • Quality of Research Communication Award

    To recognise excellence in communication to an audience that is primarily outside the profession.

  • Quality of Research Discovery Award

    To recognize excellence in published research intended for a primarily academic audience.

  • Travel Awards

    To provide “young” agricultural and resource economists with an opportunity for professional and personal development and cultural exchange through their attendance at the annual conference of either AARES or an organisation with whom it has a reciprocal arrangement. Specifically:


    Heading North

  • awarded to an Australian or New Zealand-based AARES member to attend the annual conference of the AAEA in the USA
  • US $3,000 (to cover airfares, conference registration and accommodation)

  • Heading East

  • awarded to an Australian-based AARES member to attend the annual conference of the NZARES in New Zealand.
  • AUS $1,000 (to cover airfares, accommodation and tickets to social events)
  • Conference registration

  • Heading South

  • awarded to a North American based AARES member to attend the AARES annual conference in Australia.
  • US $3,000 (to cover airfares, conference registration and accommodation)

  • Heading West

  • awarded to a New Zealand-based AARES member to attend the AARES annual conference in Australia
  • NZ $1,500 (to cover airfares, accommodation, tickets to social events)
  • Conference registration

  • IAAE Award

  • awarded to AARES members to assist their travel to and attendance at the triennial IAAE conference.
  • Up to $3,500 (to cover airfares, accommodation, tickets to social events)

  • Undergraduate Award

    To recognise merit in undergraduate performance in agricultural and/or resource economics and to introduce students to the Society.
